English

Diana Varela started her classical singing in Mexico, then she moved to Canada where she finished at the University of Montreal. Shortly before finishing music studies, Diana joined the MiaSol string ensemble, an experience that gave her the opportunity to interpret classic music, international and Mexican folk music.
Unable to resist the attraction of opera, the singer has dabbled in the genre on several occasions throughout her career. In 2012, for example, Diana interpreted the role of Love in Monteverdi's opera, "Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria" as well as the role of First Spirit in Mozart's Magic Flute as part of the cast of the AEDO Opera Studio in the Netherlands.
In 2013 Diana released her first album, which looks back at some of the most popular boleros and folk songs of all time, interpreted in her classical tones. Seeking to reflect herself and her roots, Diana sings well known numbers such as "Bésame mucho" and "Sabor a mi" from the period when she was a member of the Montreal Symphonic Orchestra chorus, conducted by Kent Nagano.
The Italian community in Montreal, ever lovers of classical music, has taken to the Mexican soprano, which encouraged her to produce her second album "Adagio" in 2014 completely in Italian. The album is now featuring on several Montreal radio stations.
Diana has sung at several festivals in Montreal, including festival Duluth en arts, the Saint Patrick festival and Weekends du monde, among others.
In addition, Diana is one of the finalists of “Superfantastico”, the largest Italian song contest in North America, which will be held at Montreal’s renowned Place des Arts theatre, this next May 2015.
